How to calculate your Grade Point Average

GPA stands for Grade Point Average. GPA reflects how well, as far as grades, you are doing at your school. Generally speaking, a 3.5 GPA or above is excellent, a 3.0 to 3.5 is very good/good, 2.5 to 3.0 is good/fair, and below a 2.5 is poor.

How to Calculate your GPA

Calculating your GPA is a relatively easy math formula. Depending on your institution, how many points assigned to each grade may vary slightly.

For each grade there a certain amount of points is assigned.
A = 4
A- /AB = 3.5
B = 3
B-/BC = 2.5
C = 2
C-/CD = 1.5
D = 1
D-/DF = .5
F=0

For each class you want to note how many credits it is worth then multiply this number by the points assigned to this grade.
For example,
Class                      Credits                  Grade                       Calculation
Math                        2                             C                                (2 x 2) = 4
English                    3                              A                               (3 x 4) = 12
Science                   4                              B-                              (4 x 2.5) = 10

Next, you add together all of your total calculations and all of your total credits
For example,
Class                      Credits                  Grade                       Calculation
Math                        2                             C                               (2 x 2) = 4
English                    3                              A                              (3 x 4) = 12
Science                   4                              B-                             (4 x 2.5) = 10
                Total Credits: 9                                                       Total Calculation: 26

Next, divide the total calculation by the total credits.
For example, 26/9 = 2.88 or round up to 2.9
